OpenAI Ads Pixel

Track ChatGPT Ads conversions from your Shopify store — and see exactly what was sent.

Setting up

  1. Connect your pixel

In OpenAI Ads Manager, open Conversions and copy your Pixel ID and a Conversions API key. Paste both into Settings. The key is encrypted before it is stored.

  2. Test the connection

Press Test connection. We send OpenAI a validation-only event and show you its exact reply. Nothing is recorded in your reports, so you can test as often as you like.

  3. Turn on the app embed

In your theme editor, open App embeds and switch on OpenAI Ads SDK. This lets OpenAI record which ad click brought a visitor to your store. Without it, orders are still tracked but cannot be credited to an ad.

  4. Place a test order

Walk through your store and complete an order. It should appear under Recent activity within seconds, and in Ads Manager shortly after.

Questions

What does this app do?

It installs OpenAI's measurement pixel on your storefront, sends the shopping events you choose to OpenAI, and shows you exactly what was sent and what OpenAI replied. The storefront pixel is installed for you when you connect a pixel; there is no theme code to paste.

Where do I find my Pixel ID and Conversions API key?

Both come from OpenAI Ads Manager, under Conversions. The Pixel ID identifies your store's events; the API key lets this app talk to OpenAI on your behalf.

Is my Conversions API key safe?

It is encrypted before it is written to our database, and it never reaches the browser: not the storefront pixel, not the theme, not the admin screens. After saving, only the last four characters are ever shown back to you.

Do I really need the app embed?

Yes, if you want conversions credited to your ads. The embed loads OpenAI's SDK, which records the ad click that brought a visitor to your store. Orders are still tracked without it, but OpenAI cannot tell which ad earned them.

I set everything up but see no events. What now?

Check four things, in order: the pixel is switched on in Settings; Test connection passes; the app embed is on in your theme; and you have visited the storefront since. Events appear under Recent activity within seconds. A consent banner that has not been accepted will also stop tracking, by design.

Does this respect customer consent?

Yes, and Shopify enforces it rather than us. The pixel declares that it needs analytics, marketing and data-sharing permission, so Shopify withholds it entirely until your visitor grants those. If consent is withdrawn mid-visit, tracking stops immediately.

Will my conversions be counted twice?

No. Every event carries an ID derived from your Shopify order, checkout or cart, so a copy sent from the browser and a copy sent from our server describe themselves as the same event and OpenAI keeps one.

What data do you store?

The events we send and OpenAI's replies, plus a short-lived record linking a visitor's ad click to their cart and checkout so an order placed days later can still be credited. That record expires after 30 days. We never store raw customer email, phone or names from storefront events.

My store uses a Content Security Policy. What do I allow?

Allow scripts from https://bzrcdn.openai.com, connections to https://bzr.openai.com and https://bzrcdn.openai.com, and images from https://bzr.openai.com. Never add 'unsafe-inline' for this app; it does not need it.

How does billing work?

Every plan starts with a 14-day free trial and is billed through Shopify, so it appears on your usual Shopify invoice. You can change or cancel your plan from the Plans page at any time.

What happens if I uninstall?

Tracking stops immediately and Shopify removes the storefront pixel. Your settings are kept briefly so a reinstall picks up where you left off, then deleted along with the rest of your data on Shopify's schedule.

Content Security Policy

Only needed if your store sets a Content Security Policy. Allow these sources so the pixel can load and report:
